In 1893, Beatrix Potter wanted to cheer up the sick child of her former governess and sent him a very touching illustrated letter, describing the adventures of Peter Rabbit for the first time. Some ten years later, these poignant adventures were published as a children's book and have since been read millions of times to small children all over the world.
